“How to Grow Vegetables” -- Trinity Raised Garden Beds
Thanks to a grant from the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence, raised beds were constructed and each first grade class planted a variety of crops: lettuce, sunflowers, marigolds, radishes and popcorn. Instruction involved identification of the edible part of the plant.
Students were able to harvest some of the fast growing crops at the end of the school year and the summer camp programs continued to observe, harvest and care for the crops. In the fall, the popcorn seeds will be harvested with follow-up lessons with the now second graders.
